COBOURG, MARCH 4, 2016 — Over 400 students from St. Mary’s Secondary School joined local dignitaries today for the E3 Launchlaunch of a new youth entrepreneurship program.  The innovative E3 Youth Entrepreneurship Program provides a range of opportunities for youth who want to develop business skills and ideas.

Combining existing community and educational opportunities with new learning and training programs, the E3 Program is geared to youth from 16 to 25 who want to explore self-employment in Northumberland County.  “We are excited to be providing this opportunity for young entrepreneurs throughout Northumberland County,” stated County Warden Gil Brocanier.  “E3’s motto is to explore, experience and expand.  The Program does this by mentoring and encouraging participants to develop business skills and ideas.”

Ellee Hellier, a current University student who operated her own summer business in 2014, believes this program will be very popular with other entrepreneurial young people.  “The E3 Program takes existing supports to a different level,” she commented at the ceremonies.  “It is designed ‘by youth, for youth’ which means that the Program builds on the feedback about our successes and set-backs.  E3 is a great tool and learning support that prepares you for the real world.”

“One of Northumberland County’s strategic goals is to increase economic innovation and prosperity,” stated Dan Borowec, County Director of Economic Development and Tourism.  “The key priorities in this area include the creation of new entrepreneurial initiatives through the Business Advisory Centre Northumberland.  Programs like E3 can provide viable career options and expand job opportunities for recent post-secondary graduates in our community.  This ultimately improves the odds of success for participants and the prosperity of our community.”
The E3 Program has been designed to complement existing business-related topics currently offered in the Secondary Schools and educational institutions.
